ancient cosmetic surgery

May 14, 2008 · 3 Comments

Ancient Egyptian women wore eye shadows and dyed their hair for beauty, just like modern women do.

Did they also resort to cosmetic surgery?

It is not a farfetched suggestion - scientists believe that the Egyptians were medically capable of such treatments back then.  Such beliefs are supported by ancient documentations that the Egyptians did fix broken jaws and noses.

Even if they did not surgically enhance the appearance of the living, they certainly did correct the blemishes of their dead.  The mummy of Rameses II, for example, had a small bone and seeds inserted into his nose.
