scrutiny on aviation safety inspection

April 11, 2008 · No Comments

Frequent flyers put their faith and their lives in the men at the cockpit, as well as the maintainence crew on the ground.  People they don’t see, but assume are qualified and are present.  (The atheists’ argument, really.  Paradoxical, aren’t they?)

The news these days, however, is the lax in aviation safety inspections.  Recently for example, US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspectors were caught turning the blind eye while Southwest Airlines “neglected to inspect planes and continued to fly them even after finding cracks in some”.

US Congress Representative James Oberstar, who is also an aviation safety activist, is leading efforts to crackdown on the safety inspections.

Thousands of flights for various airlines were canceled over the past few days, sparking chaos in US airports, and disrupting travelers’ plans.

But then again, isn’t it always better to be safe than sorry?
